Google Announces Three Years of Wear OS Updates for Pixel Watch 3
Pixel Watch 2 to Receive Updates Until October 2026
In a recent development, Google has pledged to support the Pixel Watch 3 with Wear OS updates for a period of three years. This announcement came shortly after the watch’s debut at the company’s Made by Google event last month, where it was introduced alongside the Pixel 9 series. For comparison, Google’s Pixel smartphones benefit from a seven-year update cycle. However, the Pixel Watch 3’s three-year update commitment is notably shorter than the four-year update promise extended to Samsung’s latest smartwatches.
Update Duration and Software Support
According to Google’s official support documentation, the Pixel Watch 3 is set to receive Wear OS updates until October 2027. These updates will encompass security patches and may include feature enhancements over time. Google’s latest wearable, which launched with Android 14-based Wear OS 5, is expected to follow a similar three-year update plan for earlier models as well. Specifically, the Pixel Watch 2, released in 2023, will be supported until October 2026, while the Pixel Watch from 2022 will receive updates until October 2025.
In contrast, Google’s major competitor, Samsung, offers a four-year update promise for its Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra models. This provides a longer support period compared to Google’s three-year commitment for its Pixel Watch series.
Pixel Watch 3 Pricing and Specifications in India
The Pixel Watch 3 made its debut on August 13 during the Made by Google event. In India, the 41mm model with Wi-Fi connectivity is priced at Rs. 39,900, while the 45mm variant starts at Rs. 43,900. Currently, the watch is available for pre-order through Flipkart, as well as through major retailers like Reliance Digital and Croma.
Both models of the Pixel Watch 3 feature a display with 2,000 nits of peak brightness and a pixel density of 320ppi, protected by 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The watch is powered by the Qualcomm SW5100 chip and a Cortex M33 co-processor, and is built to be IP68-rated for water and dust resistance.
Battery life varies between the two models: the 41mm version is equipped with a 307mAh battery, while the 45mm model includes a 420mAh battery. Google claims that the Pixel Watch 3 can offer up to 24 hours of battery life with the always-on display mode activated.
